This university describes itself as one of the smallest and most collegiate schools among the nation’s top research universities. The University of Rochester participates in Division III athletics and has over 250 student organizations, including Greek life. It has an acceptance rate of 30 percent with a 1310-1550 SAT range and a 30-34 ACT range. Tuition and fees cost $58,208, and room and board cost $17,144. New York University, also known as NYU, is a private institution founded in 1831. NYU’s primary campus is located in the Greenwich Village neighborhood of Manhattan and has a total undergraduate enrollment of 26,981 students. It has no borders separating a distinct campus from the streets of NYC. NYU has more than 300 student organizations (including Greek life) and participates in Division III athletics. It has an acceptance rate of sixteen percent with a 1350-1530 SAT range and a 30-34 ACT range. Tuition and fees cost $54,880, and room and board cost $19,244. In second place is Cornell University. Cornell is a private institution founded in 1865. It is located in Ithaca, NY, with a campus size of 745 acres and an undergraduate enrollment of 15,043 students. Cornell offers more than 1,000 student organizations, including the Big Red Marching Band, Greek Life, etc. It also participates in Division I athletics. Cornell is known for its highly-ranked veterinary school and hotel administration school. It has an acceptance rate of eleven percent with a 1400-1560 SAT range and a 32-35 ACT range. Tuition and fees cost $59,316, and room and board cost $15,846. Cornell University has ranked number eighteen in the 2021 edition of Best Colleges is National Universities.


Coming in number one is Columbia University. Columbia is a private institution founded in 1754. Located in New York City, it has an urban campus size of 36 acres with an undergraduate enrollment of 6,245 students. Columbia has three undergraduate schools: Columbia College, The Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science, and the School of General Studies. Columbia also offers a range of student activities, including 28 Greek life chapters, and is also affiliated with Barnard College for women. It has an acceptance rate of five percent with a 1440-1570 SAT range and a 33-35 ACT range. Tuition and fees cost $64,380, and room and board cost $14,970. Columbia University has ranked number three in the 2021 edition of Best Colleges is National Universities.
